The control room is the center of operations for the studio. This is where the listening, mixing and editing takes place. All the recording snakes lead towards this room and a custom 16 input digital audio workstation running Pro Tools. All the gear is within reach from the desktop and routed through patch bays. With great visibility of the main room from every location, it is comfortable for tracking, overdubbs and mixing. The main room is where most of the recording takes place. 90% of everything that we record here is tracked through microphones in this room with the performer(s) wearing headphones. This room sounds great tracking drums, vocals, amplifiers and instruments. I have various custom panels, baffles and methods for treating the room. Excellent visibility of the control room and side room.
The side room is great for isolating a performer, amplifier or instrument. Seperated from the main room by a sliding glass door, we can treat this room for many different applications. I will put singer/songwriters in this room when we are tracking a band because it allows for a high level of isolation from the drum mics in the main room. It's a great room for playing guitar and/or tracking vocals. A good place to isolate a speaker cabinet or for punchy backing vocals, horns & percussion.
The speaker nook is a multi-purpose isolation area. This space functions primarily as the studios restroom but the untreated ambience of the room records well. There are mic, instrument and headphones lines wired up and a speaker shelf hanging on the back wall.
The amp closet is great for isolating a guitar amp or speaker cabinet. Guitar amps sound awesome in there and it's another great isolation area for speaker cabinets. Located in the stairwell connecting upstairs with the main room we get great sounds tracking both with the door open or closed.
The piano room stores most of the instruments, and miscellaneous gear
This is where i keep a lot of musical instruments and some audio gear. Both the Steinway baby grand and the Wurlitzer spinet record great in there, plus there is a couch, TV. & stereo. It's a good place to relax and take a break. When tracking vocals, instruments or amplifiers it's much brighter and live, a good contrast to the main room.
If you are a band, musician, songwriter or artist of any genre that is considering recording give me a call and hear what I can do for you.
